Experienced Flat Water Kayak Guide/Tour manager
In addition to having experience as a guide and passing all of the mandatory training below, we are looking for someone with the leadership and people skills to effectively manage customer demands, guide staff and tour schedules at Sea Me Paddle Kayaking Tours for the summer 2023 season. A qualified candidate will be a team player who has excellent communication skills and is able to mitigate conflict among varying personalities and promote a fun and postive work environment. Chosen candidate will be able to multi-task at a very high level and be a forward thinker. Although basic technology skills and scheduling is necessary for job performance, this is an outdoor, hands on management position and preference will be given to a guide/manager as opposed to a typical manager.
We are looking for experienced flat water kayak guide(s) who have an outgoing personality and have some medical training, CPR and First Aid are mandatory, water rescue certifications preferred but not mandatory. Our tours can range from three to nine miles. Guides are responsible for the set up of kayaks (approximately 55 pounds each), gear, briefings and most importantly the safety of our guests while on tour. Training on lake conditions, weather patterns as well as local knowledge (areas of interest, food/watering holes, Glacier National Park etc.) will be provided.
Successful completion of mandatory training week is a prerequisite for employment as a guide at Sea Me Paddle Kayaking Tours. This spring the training will be offered May 15-19. Day 1 will be approximately two hours of classroom information and paperwork. The remainder of the day will be spent on required self-rescue and companion rescue training. This will be evaluated as a Pass/Fail and must be passed to continue the remainder of the week. Once passed, the rest of the week will be spent on Sea Me Paddle standards and protocols of safely navigating water conditions while providing fun and exciting tours to our guests.
Clean driving record required and knowledge of trailer towing preferred.
Compensation: Wage is $17-$22 per hour DOE plus tips, with a generous end of season bonus based on performance.
Perks: Flexible scheduling. Employees are able to use equipment outside of their shifts free of charge for themselves only, working on Flathead Lake and getting paid for it!
Job Type: Full-time, seasonal. This is a seasonal position starting in mid June through the end of August, possibly through the end of September.
